This book shows the many and various ways we have made mistakes over the years and gives us ways to right our paths and be truly welcoming to all of God's children. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who is traveling the rocky path to be a Christian who loves and wants to welcome everyone into their lives and their churches.
A different point of view is very welcoming...Very good read
I highly recommend this book. Through a collection of sermons, testimonies and questions, Out of Exodus tells the story of how a United Methodist congregation in Pennsylvania reoriented itself, built a strong and thorough consensus and became an open and affirming congregation. A series of sermons about Moses and the Exodus provide the structural backbone of the book, but the testimonies describing how the congregation responded to a new member, burned out by persecution by her fellow Christians, came to see their future in what she represented and developed that insight through their Sunday school classes and other structures, are the revelation and provide incredible insights in a time when working toward agreement seems to be a lost art. The book packs an unexpected emotional wallop as well. I won’t say more because the casual reader would be tempted to turn to those pages first and would miss the core message of the book which is that the journey is as important as the destination. There are voices and characters in this book that will guide me for years to come.
