I enjoyed reading the book and enjoy the irreverent style of writing he does. However, it's not nearly as meaty as his first two books. Part of it, I blame on the relatively short timeline he was writing about. Stretching six years into 400 pages is a bit of a stretch. Another part of it is the relatively tame state of the WWE locker room. His first book had a ton of stories about different locker rooms. His second book was insightful as it was a very interesting time in the WWF/WWE locker room and in his career. The third book has some entertaining anecdotes that will make the time fly but there really isn't anything with any punch behind it aside from when he covers his trip to Iraq and the portion of the book that encompasses the HBK feud. And the lack of punch is where it goes from five stars to three. The locker room environment isn't as chaotic as it used to be. I understand that and don't really blame him for it. What I do take umbrage with is that he doesn't go into some more controversial stuff like him and Helms getting arrested or the rumored Kelly Kelly affair in which pictures are plastered all over the Internet; he seems hesitant to include anything that portrays him in a bad light other than stuff he can explain away easily. Even his rock n roll road stories are mild when compared to stories from rock bands of the 60's, 70's, and 80's.If you enjoyed the first two books, you'll enjoy this one. Just don't expect it to be as good.
I'm not the biggest wrestling fan on the planet and I actually enjoy reading about behind the scenes stuff more than I enjoy the end product. I was given this book as a gift and thought "Worth a shot".Indeed it was. I've since 'collected' all three of Chris Jericho's books, and all three are excellent. It's about a wrestler, but it's not exactly all about wrestling. It's about Chris Jericho, and it chronicles his rise from being a kid through today. This title is picks up where his previous book left off, as is his style. I highly recommend the three, read the first, you'll want to read the other two! His story is one that, you really don't get "to know" his story without reading it from the start.I especially like that he doesn't gloss over the parts most people would sweep out of his spotlight. You get to read it all, even the parts of his history that he admits he's ashamed of that most people would gloss over. In short, it's an honest book which makes it fairly unique as autobiographical works go. It's an awesome read.
Somehow Jericho pulls off a third collection of anecdotes, life moments, and musings that entertain as well as enlighten. Being a Heavy Metal fan helps, and also a wrestling fan, but Jericho is a rare talent even if he is a Canadian (just kidding, Winnipeg is great). I guess the best endorsement I could give is that it induced me to want to get "The Road is Jericho" DVD set to see the feuds he vividly describes herein.I loved the story of how Shawn Michaels refused to help Chris on his road to recovery. If this means Jericho is unredeemable, then we're eager for a fourth volume, jerkies! This tome leaves you wanting to read more... AGAYN!
In my opinion there are only two good autobiographies that have come out of the WWE, Mick Foley & Chris Jericho. I look forward to Jericho books (Mick has taken a long sabbatical). He has had such a diverse and storied career in wrestling, music, and other media, so it's interesting to catch up with his crazy life every few years or so. If you enjoyed his other two books, you are sure to love this one. Follow Chris as he returns to the WWE (again), climbs the heavy metal hierarchy with Fozzy, competes on dancing with the Stars, tours Iraq, hosts a short lived game show, and introduces you to his favorite drink, the "Yeah Boy."
Another amazingly well written and fun read by The Best in the World at what he does. Reading Jericho's books is like having him next to you just tell a bunch of amazing stories. Whether its his wrestling career the past seven years, music career, or other entertainment adventures, Jericho finds a way to keep each story engaging and quite humorous. I have been a Jerichoholic since his WCW debut and consider Chris Jericho one of the top 5 greatest talents in the wrestling business of all time. Love Fozzy and the fact that Jericho is a huge ambassador of Metal (Up the IRONS!) I just can't get enough of Jericho's stories. Cant wait to see Fozzy live in New Orleans in December! Get the book cause its definitely froot!
I've gotta be honest here:when I first heard Jericho was writing a 3rd book,I was excited. I couldn't wait till it came out. Needless to say the book wasn't what I'd anticipated. I've read most,if not all,of the classic wrestling autobiographies. This one doesn't measure up at all. The HBK feud he writes about is the best story he told. While it's not a bad book,it's not in the top 10 of the best. I'd compare this one to maybe The Hardcore Diaries by Foley. Just an all around let down. I'm reading Booker T's latest and so far it's muck better. Kamala's book isn't to be slept on either. So for the life of me I can't see why anyone would give this book a 5 star rating, let alone 4 stars. Gary Hart,5 stars. Foley's 1st two,5 stars. Hell Jericho's 1st two were 5 stars. I could go on & on. Ole Anderson's bio was much, much better. I liked the book, don't get me wrong. I just wanted more I guess.
This is one of the most interesting books I've read in a long time. Chris Jericho has lead a very colorful life, full of so much adventure and misadventure that you'd think you were reading about the experiences of multiple people. Chris' writing style is smooth, articulate, and easy to read, and often punctuated with the brand of humor that only Y2J can deliver. "The Best in the World..." is one of the best autobiographies in the world. I highly recommend it.
